First Trimester Faves

I am so excited to share that I’m pregnant with my first child! My husband, Chris, and I are expecting a baby girl in early August. Now that I’m a little over 16 weeks along, I’m ready to share some items that helped me survive the difficult first trimester.

Cute Dino slippers from Target!

Like many pregnant people, I had pretty bad morning sickness. Fun fact: morning sickness is not just in the morning! And it’s not just once a day! I was experiencing “morning” sickness all day, roughly 3-5 times a day. Early on, my eldest sister predicted I was going to have a girl because I was so sick (and she was right!). Below are what helped me most.

One of my best friends sent me Preggie Pops Drops, which have a little bit of B6 in them, which helps cut down nausea. I was (and still am) a huge fan of these. Both the Lemon and Raspberry flavors taste good and I never got sick of them.

Something else I’ve completely relied on bubbly water. My Soda Streamer is my best friend, to the point where I’ve considered buying one for my classroom so I can have it all day every day. I know it’s not phenomenal for you, certainly not as great as plain water, but in that first trimester, you’re just trying to hang on (and not throw up in front of a classroom of high school boys).

I’ve never been a consistent vitamin taker. It’s not something I’m proud of, but I knew I’d have to remember a daily prenatal vitamin, so I started with the Nature Made Prenatal Gummies. They tasted good and were easy to keep next to my bathroom sink to pop in right before I brushed my teeth.

That being said, once morning sickness hit, I found that my taste buds changed and flavors I once loved (coffee!!) became somewhat repulsive to me, so the yummy gummies had to go. I switched to the pill version from Nature Made, which I’m still taking.

To combat the nausea and insomnia, my doctor recommended taking B6 every day, as well as Unisom, so I’ve incorporated that into my nightly routine. So far, this has worked beautifully! I’ve only had to throw up once in the middle of the night, and while I still wake up frequently, I’m averaging about 7 hours a night with the Unisom.

As I said before, I am not a pill person, so I got this chic Port and Polish pill organizer case from Anthropologie, which has truly been a life and time saver for me. Now that I’m in my second trimester, I’m also taking daily Baby Asprin to avoid Preeclampsia, so this sweet little case holds everything I need to be taking before I go to sleep. It comes in many pretty colors like lilac, mint and pink. Plus, it’s way cuter than the case my Nana used to have!

As I continue on this pregnancy journey, stay tuned for what I’m researching to register for, how I’ll be decorating my nursery, and favorite maternity options. What else should I cover?
